Job Description:
The job of cook is the preparing and distributing food service items for consumption by students and school personnel; maintaining inventories of food service items and maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.
Requirement: Food Handler Permit required within 14 days of employment. (Visit Kittitas County Public Health Department website for information. https://co.kittitas.wa.us/health/services/food.aspx#foodpermit)
Essential Job Functions:
- Inspects received items of food and/or supplies for the purpose of ensuring specifications, quantity and quality of orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements
- Stocks food, condiments and supplies for the purpose of maintaining adequate quantities and security of items
- Prepares food and beverage items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and projected meal requirements
- Serves one or more items of food for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school staff
- Cleans utensils, equipment and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions
- Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
- Procures equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining an adequate inventory to complete jobs efficiently within budget guidelines
- Directs food service workers and other personnel as assigned for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the workforce and meeting shift requirements
- Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Perform such other related duties as may be requested by the Kitchen Manager
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience regarding food preparation techniques, procedures and equipment
- Knowledgeable of USDA guidelines
- Possess a strong commitment to customer service
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, consensus building atmosphere
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain working relationships with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgement
- Skills to operate office equipment including use of computer applications
Terms of Employment:
- Affiliation: PSE Classified Union
- Days: 7 hours a day, 5 days a week
- Hourly rate enhancement: credit for college degrees or certifications per PSE contract. Max is based on 25 years of in district experience.
- Contract: Prorated 193 Day classified contracted calendar
- Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance through SEBB*
- Sick/Personal Days: up to 12 sick days per school year and up to 3 personal days per year.
- Retirement: Two plan choice available with DRS, Plan 2 and 3.
- Holidays: Up to 11 holidays per year, depending on start date.
- A post offer physical is required by our ESD105 Workers Co-Op.

- ASAP or within 2 weeks of hire.

*Benefits through SEBB is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to work during the school year. Any employee who is scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a school year (September 1 through August 31) is eligible for benefits.
