THIS IS A CONTINUING POSITION FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR.
NOTE: This position is open to qualifed CERSD staff from September 30- October 7, 2024. Applications received from out of disrict applicants will not be considered until October 8, 2024. Applications will be reviewed as submitted and interviewsmay be scheduled for selected qualified applicants the week of October 21st. This position is full-time (6.5 hours per day) and open until filled.
REPORTS TO: Building Administrator / Program Director
MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- 18 years of age or older AND
- High School Diploma or equivalent AND
- One of the following: AA degree from accredited college or university; 72 quarter or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at accredited college or university; passing score on paraeducator assessment test; OR completed apprenticeship as a paraeducator in an approved and registered program (requirements per Title I Section 1119(g))
Paraeducators hired to assist preschool and/or high needs students may have duties that include but are not limited to some of the following duties and responsibilites:
- Assisting students with physical needs such as placing on toilet, changing diaper, washing, etc.
- Assisting with administering medication and catheterization, under the direction of the school nurse (training provided)
- Observing and working with a therapist in carrying out a planned program of therapy
- Assisting with wheelchair bound students as needed
- Assisting with any other special education program related tasks assigned by the Program Director, Building Administrator, teacher or school healthcare staff.
Paraeducators assisting students with personal needs or high needs receive either an additional .75 or $1.50 per hour on top of their base rate.
Working with students in the Area of Behavior may include:
- Assigned to work with students who have behavioral challenges as part of their official duties as determined by Executive Director of Student Services. The scope of work must include one or more of the following criteria:
- Co-develop with teacher for lesson prep, delivery, progress monitoring and data analysis of social emotional learning groups
- Direct responsibly for crisis management of students experiencing dysregulation as trained by the supervising teacher
- Direct responsibility for implementing a behavior intervention plan that is designed by the supervising teacher
- Direct responsibility for implementing steps on an emergency protocol that is designed by the supervising teacher
- Direct assignment to a specific student as documented in an IEP/504
- Completion of relevant and ongoing training in behavior management and intervention techniques as prescribed by the school district.
- Demonstration of competency in applying behavior management strategies, as evaluated by the immediate supervisor or designated school official.
- Attendance required at meetings relevant to developing student plans such as IEP, 504, Behavior Intervention Plans and Functional Behavior Assessments.
Other Areas of Responsibility May Include:
- Assisting with planning and carrying out individual student learning objectives
- Assisting students in the subjects of reading, writing, math or social as directed
- Assisting with maintaining necessary paperwork associated with timelines, and instructional progression and with preparation of materials
- Supervision duties as assigned within or outside the school building, which may include recess and/or lunch supervision
- Assisting with parent communication.
- Using office equipment (copier, computer, etc.) as needed to assist in meeting classroom/instructional needs
- Provide job coaching for students
- Assisting with self-help skills and life skills
- Assisting in the office with filing, phones and/or other student/building related office work
Qualifications:
- Successful experience working with children
- Current CPR – First Aid card preferred
- Clerical/computer skills preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively and courteously
- Typical para educator duties require staff to lift up to 75 lbs, stand and move about frequently and to operate various types of machines and equipment used in classrooms and school buildings.
Terms of Employment:
- Contract: Prorated contract of 180 student days, professional development days and holidays
- Affiliation: PSE Classified Union
- Hourly rate enhancement: credit for college degrees or certifications per PSE contract. The max includes 25 years of school district expereince.
- Benefits: : Medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance through SEBB*
- Sick/Personal Days: up to 12 sick days per school year and up to 3 personal days per year.
- Holidays: Up to 11 paid holidays each year.
- Max hourly wage is based off of 25 years of experience.
- A post offer physical is required by our ESD105 Workers Co-Op.

*Benefits through SEBB is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to work during the school year. Any employee who is scheduled to work 630 hours or more in a school year (September 1 through August 31) is eligible for benefits.
