Salary:  Cle Elum Roslyn Education Association (CEREA) negotiated salary schedule approved on October 8, 2018

Definition of Position:  Certified teachers carry out the position performance requirements essential to provide the necessary services to assigned boys and girls in the Cle Elum-Roslyn School District. The individual in this position will play a critical role not only in the education of our youth, but also in the continual evaluation and improvement of curriculum and continual improvement of teaching and learning strategies.

 

Reports To: Elementary School Principal

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BA degree and possess a Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements for the position being considered. 
  • Documented successful and effective teaching, substitute teaching and/or student teaching experience.
  • Technical and working knowledge of Washington State learning standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Documented successful and effective experience working with and teaching children in instrumental and musical instruction.
  • Verifiable successful experience working with and/or teaming with other adults/teachers.
  • Multiple endorsements that allow the individual to teach multiple and different courses.
  • Masters Degree and teaching endorsement in English, Language Arts, reading, math and/or science, in addition to the endorsement(s) required for initial hire.
  • Understanding of or experience with character education programs, PBIS, Make Your Day or other similar culture building programs.

  • Plan and develop a variety of instructional experiences appropriate to the specified learning objectives and outcomes
  • Conduct an effective instructional plan for individual or small group
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction for a wide variety of student learning
  • Assess pupils’ achievement and use that assessment data to inform instruction

  • Understand and practice contemporary pedagogical practices such as developmentally appropriate practices, contextual teaching, integrated curriculum, inclusion practices, classroom based assessment, alternative assessment practices, individualized programs, global/multi-cultural education, differentiated instruction, and integration of Washington State learning standards with current curricular materials

JOB/POSITION SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION FOR ELEMENTARY MUSIC TEACHER

 

CERTIFICATED SUPPLEMENTAL

 

Job Title:  Elementary Music Teacher

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the elementary principal, the music teacher is to educate students in grades K – 5.  The music teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments, listening and performs other duties directly related to this position.

BASIC FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:

  • Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in instrumental and choral music to elementary students at the appropriate grade/skill level.
  • Plans & executes a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • May provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each students. Encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
  • Utilize repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
  • Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments and equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
  • Evaluates each student’s musical growth, performance and musical understanding. Assesses each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
  • Selects appropriate music, books and instructional aides to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary
  • Cooperates with building principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
  • Works collaboratively with other building and district staff in professional learning communities (PLC) and other teams.
  • Communicates with parents and school staff on individual student’s progress.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time
  • Ability to see for purposes of reading music, correspondence, documents and printed matter and observing students.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
  • Ability to bend, crouch, kneel to assist students pushing/pulling and lifting of musical equipment and supplies, sitting in chairs and/or floor and reaching in all directions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Moderate to high stress level.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work is predominately in multi-purpose room/classroom, school environment.
  • Noise level is usually moderate with increased levels during musical practices/performances.

Contacts:

  • Daily contact with students, teachers and school staff
  • Regular to occasional contact with parents, outside community members and organizations.

Qualifications & Certificates:

  • Holds an appropriate Washington State Teaching Credential with Music Education endorsement or valid emergency certification issued by OSPI.
  • Demonstrated ability to play at least one standard musical instrument and/or ability to sing.
